February Challenge: LEGO mashup

(judged by Green-Arrow)

Winner!
The Quillion by JeremyLego

JeremyLego's Quillion

Should I know you? This month's challenge is to build something (vehicle, diorama, vignette ... anything) that incorporates at least two unrelated themes or genres. Space cowboys, arctic pirates, Batman in Fabuland — the more creative the hybrid, the better.

A couple notes:
  • Integrate the two themes as thoroughly and seamlessly as possible. Don't just show Indiana Jones fighting Darth Vader and call that a mashup. But blending the worlds of Indiana Jones and Han Solo into a single universe would be a mashup.

  • Limit one entry per contender, but no limit on the number of creations per entry as long as they all relate to the same mashup. For instance, for a "NASCAR on Mars" mashup, you could enter as many different vehicles, buildings, tracks, or vignettes as you wanted, so long as they all involve NASCAR on Mars.

  • Don't feel obligated to limit yourself to official LEGO themes — be as inventive as you can. If you want to have the nine members of the Fellowship of the Ring stop off for a beer at Cheers, go for it.

  • Entries will be judged by:
    • creativity & inventiveness (selection of themes)
    • how effectively the themes are blended
    • quality & craftmanship

I'm pleased to announce that JeremyLego is this month's winner with his sleek castle-space mashup, The Quillion.

This was a very tough call -- especially with MadBillyBlack's inspired and totally original Escherian Planetoid in the mix. I went back and forth a lot between Jeremy and MadBilly on this one. In the end, it was the seamless integration of Jeremy's chosen themes that tipped the scales.

I also have to give special mention to Almaxr, who gets big points for working in the most obscure and forgotten theme (for me, anyway) with his Throwbot mashup.

Thanks to everyone who entered -- looking forward to getting back to building for the March challenge.
